Charleston’s suburban neighbor (Mt. Pleasant) approved a 110-acre mixed-use real estate development featuring 719 residences, a new elementary school, and more than 350,000 square feet of commercial, retail, and office space. Coined ‘Central Mount Pleasant,’ this well-located parcel, developed by McAlister Development and Greystar Real Estate Partners, will offer tough competition in the local market for upscale residences, boutique shopping and fine dining experiences.
While plans call for an upscale, full service hotel, no word at Thursday’s meeting about which flag will be flying over the signature hotel location. Single family and condominium residences are planned to be spread across the pedestrian-friendly neighborhood and town center – no word on pricing for these homes yet.
Council members heated up the discussions with accusations of political lobbying efforts attempting to thwart the approvals – all for the benefit of other competitive projects in the area. Stay tuned.
