According to the Post & Courier, one of the area’s most prominent plantations and wedding sites, Lowndes Grove, is under contract by the owners of the William Aiken House and Fish restaurant, Patrick Properties. If the 15-acre antebellum 6,800 sf home sells for close to its asking price of $7.2 million, it will eclipse the downtown record of $6.1 million paid for 64 South Battery Street. The house, built in 1786, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, and has been featured on the cover of Oprah’s magazine, “O.”
At that price, you better start saving your pennies for your daughter’s wedding reception at Lowndes Grove or you could always ask Oprah for a small loan. We’ll check back in August to see if the deal closes. Update: Yep, it closed in July for $6.5 million.
