On November 20, Freddie Mac attorneys contacted 6,000 borrowers (owner occupied homes) whose homes were scheduled for county auction and gave them a reprieve until at least January 9, 2009. Is this a move designed to give the lenders more time to implement the new Streamlined Modification Program or are they are up to their old tricks giving homeowners a Christmas gift, but then clamping back down on them after the holidays. Let’s hope it’s the former.
